Cuatro getariarras, \u201csecuestraron\u201d en 1978 la estatua de Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano<\/a>, situada junto a la antigua ermita del paseo nuevo donostiarra, para llevarla a su localidad.<\/p>\n La estatua fue colocada en 1861 en Getaria, pero en 1940 durante la guerra civil, fue trasladada a Donostia.<\/p>\n La idea inicial era fundirla para fabricar munici\u00f3n, pero como era hueca, se qued\u00f3 olvidada por mucho tiempo en un almac\u00e9n, hasta que a alguien se le ocurri\u00f3 colocarla junto a la ermita del paseo nuevo.<\/p>\n Durante muchos a\u00f1os se pensaba que alg\u00fan d\u00eda tendr\u00eda que volver a Getaria, hasta que un 28 de mayo, tres getariarras con un peque\u00f1o cami\u00f3n, cargaron la estatua y la devolvieron definitivamente a su pueblo.<\/p>\n Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano<\/a>, naci\u00f3 en Getaria, por el a\u00f1o 1476, desde muy joven fue un experto marinero. En 1519 se enrol\u00f3 en la expedici\u00f3n liderada por Fernando de Magallanes<\/a>, para descubrir una ruta a las Indias orientales, y a la muerte de este tomo el mando, llegando a Sevilla en 1522
